Bough didn't break, iguana didn't fall
BRUNSWICK -- After 10 days of sunning on a branch, Elvis has finally left the tree.
Elvis, a 3-foot-long iguana, climbed the tree when his owner, Mike Norwalk, let him outside to sunbathe, said Ed Wlotzko from Brunswick Animal Control.
"We got the call last week that he (Norwalk) let him outside to go sunning," he explained. "The guy turned around and it went up the tree. He was just sitting up there eating leaves and bugs."
Animal control and members of the Brunswick Parks and Recreation Department were called in to assist the Keller Hanna Drive resident around 8:30 a.m. Friday.
"We just put him (Norwalk) in the lift and he brought the iguana down," Wlotzko said.
Wlotzko said Elvis was removed from the branch without incident.
Norwalk could not be reached for comment later Friday.
Maureen McGinty, the city's supervisor of parks and recreation, said the iguana was not taken from the tree earlier because Norwalk thought it might come down by itself.
"The resident was unable to get him out of the tree," she said. "He was out on a branch, so you couldn't just prop a ladder against the trunk and get him down."
She added she was glad to help with the rescue.
