Happy reunion has a sad ending for boy and his pet iguana
Washington-AP -- Firefighters have been known to rescue cats from trees, but an iguana?
That's what Washington, D-C, firefighters were called on to do yesterday.
Thirteen-year-old Braderick Harris called the fire department after his pet iguana escaped and ran up a tree.
Firefighters arrived with a ladder truck and rescued the four-year-old lizard, which is more than two feet long.
But the joyful reunion had a sad ending.
Animal control officers took Iggy away for good. It turns out that the lizards are illegal in the District of Columbia. The Washington Humane Society says they have a high risk of salmonella.
The animal control office says it will try to find a suitable home for Iggy. Iguanas are legal in neighboring Maryland and Virginia.
