My iguana is about the same age as yours, and I've noticed the same thing. I've also noticed that these periods of "Gimmie all your food!" and "No time to eat, gotta watch my figure!" are related to his growth patterns. When he's going through a huge growth spurt, he'll go on an eating binge. When his growth rate slows down, he doesn't need nearly as much.
I've noticed this same thing with many species, including humans. Keep an eye on those pin worms, and good luck!
