Take him before he goes to the bathroom during the day. If you are trying in the morning, try in the afternoon instead. Perhaps he doesn't have to go when you place him in the tub. I have trained or helped train several iguanas with the bathtub method and have a very high success rate. My bearded dragon is the only one who seemed uniterested in this method but he doesn't make much of a mess anyway so I don't worry about it. Iguanas usually take to it pretty naturally.
