Hi guys. I know this is the Iguana forum, but I've been making this announcement to several forums as a recruitment pitch.
In March of this year, I founded the Corucia Conservation Alliance. It's mission is to gather information on and fight for the welfare and protection of, Corucia zebrata, otherwise known as the "monkey" or "prehensile tailed" skink.
WE are not-for-profit, and because there are no pamphlets or anything else ready to give in return for membership, there are no dues as of yet. Anyone wishing to join simply emails me and I put the person on the group mailing list. Each Friday I send a greeting to the group, informing them of the organization's progress and information learned which may be useful.
Impressive contacts are being established. Many professionals have been more than kind in their assistance, including:
Dr. Ellen Dierenfeld, Chief Animal Nutritionist at the Bronx Zoo/WCS headquarters; Joyce Parker, long time Corucia keeper at Philadelphia Zoo, which is known for having bred several generations of PTSs; Mr.MIchael McCoy who wrote Reptiles of the Solomon Islands in 1980 (and who recently put out an updated version on CD-Rom); and others.
If interested, please feel free to email me with questions.
Corucia zebrata is highly understudied by conservationists, and is in much danger in the wild from over collection and habitat destruction. A large member base will bring us closer to reaching our goals.
Thanks. Best to you and your Igs!
