Sorry I haven't had the energy to post a followup until now: I've been recovering from spending a few hours outdoors in Morro Bay State Park doing the Natural History Museum's annual Summer Solstice/Fun in the Sun day with my veteran public education ig, Velcro, and her son Zaphod (whose 2nd appearance as a working ig this was: he was a total champ, and even suffered having a 4 yr old boy stick his fingers repeatedly into his mouth with calm and patience; pretty darn good for a 7 yr old male!). I took a few pictures:

The first picture of little Rex, post-surgery, is at:

...and as soon as he's feeling a bit more comfortable I'll try to get a good pic of the HUGE "zipper" on his stomach. Mebbe next week-- he's still pretty careful of it, although he has begun sleeping normally.
Contributions are still being accepted for Exotics Care (my project to help iguanas and other exotic animals that need vet care) at Bear Valley Animal Clinic: you can call them directly at (805) 528-0693. Tell them you want to make a contribution and give them a credit card number and amount (ANY amount will help provide medicine and vet care for abandoned and sick exotics: I do get a break on costs because my vets are VERY active in rehabbing, but on my fixed [disability] income I need help in order to help animals) -- and if you get someone new (this happened once last week) just be patient and have them get a more experienced person to take your call who knows what to do.
And if you know someone who would like to adopt one of the young iguanas I have here, or would like to adopt one yourself, please get in touch!
Thank you for helping! *:)
*Best,*

: THE CAMBRIAN June 21-27, 2001
: Homeless Iguanas Seeking Shelter
: --Kathe Tanner
: Cambria's leading iguana lover, Meriday Beth Komor,
: will be among the participants at Morro Bay's Summer
: Solstice/Fun in the Sun on Saturday.
: The event -- from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. near the Natural
: History Museum in Morro Bay State Park -- will feature
: exhibits and information from Komor's Cambria/Internet
: Herpetological Society, along with the San Luis Obispo
: Turtle and Tortoise Club, Friends of the Elephant Seal
: and a host of other participants.
: Komor says she desperately needs permanent homes for
: several iguanas, which she is fostering on a temporary
: basis. A couple of the colorful lizards had been abandoned
: in what is for them Cambria's hostile outdoor atmosphere;
: others were sent to Komor by animal-services agents.
: The thought that people would abandon iguanas, or any pet,
: enrages Komor. "They're just people with fur or scales. There
: is no such thing as a throw-away animal," she said.
: For details on the iguanas, call Komor afternoons or evenings
: at 805-927-3323, or log onto www.anapsid.org, a website by the author
: of "Iguanas for DUmmies."
