I kind of think that's the general idea behind the opinions. Baby boys are usually circumsized for a reason, be it for religous reasons or the thought that being circumsized is "cleaner" and runs less risk of infection. It is done in sterile conditions by a doctor or during a religous ceremony (don't know if it is still done in the latter). As for neutering/spaying an iggy, I have to say it's an excellent idea! We are seeing more and more research that proves there are benefits beyond helping to stop over population. Again, this is a medical proceedure.

I have to say when it comes to piercing and tatts they are two very personal decisions, much like religion in that many people have strong opinions about them. I can easily relate to the idea that piercing an animal is cruel -piercing a child is cruel -people are seeing it as the animal or child was not given any say in the matter.

Looks like another case of having to agree to disagree -after all it would be boring if we all felt the same way on every subject.
