First I'll say I have only quickly scanned over these proposed bills. I think a lot depends on the meaning of 'exotic' and 'wild'. In Canada there is a difference between the two, with 'wild' animals being illegal, and 'exotic's are not.
(I think the grandfather clause sucks if it involves expense for current owners. Just registering that you have one should be enough)
But my REAL opinion is that humans have no right to 'own' exotic wild animals. I do not include iggies here ... I mean tigers and lions etc. These are truly wild animals, and people do not have the right to own them nor acquire them specifically for the purpose of keeping them as a pet.
I don't know how the legislations are worded in Canada (Candice are you here???) but I DO know that I cannot own a tiger. Nor do I think I should - I do not have some natural inalienable right to own whichever creature I feel like.
Actually, I would even go as far as to say I wish iguanas were illegal here as well. Iguanas do NOT belong in Canada. Our poor Iggy belongs in Ecuador ... or at least somewhere where the temps get over 80 in the summer. :o(
