[comments interspersed, below]

: THE CAMBRIAN June 21-27, 2001

: Homeless Iguanas Seeking Shelter
: --Kathe Tanner

: Cambria's leading iguana lover, Meriday Beth Komor,
: will be among the participants at Morro Bay's Summer
: Solstice/Fun in the Sun on Saturday.

I'm going in part to beg for funding for the operation to remove a *HUGE* bladder stone from the iguana that was abandoned here over the weekend. If you can spare ANY change, please call Bear Valley Animal Clinic directly at:

(805) 528-0693

...and give them a credit card # and amount that you'd like to contribute. All help is very welcome, as this little guy's surgery has to be immediate because the stone is taking up nearly ALL of his bladder now...

: The event -- from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. near the Natural
: History Museum in Morro Bay State Park -- will feature
: exhibits and information from Komor's Cambria/Internet
: Herpetological Society, along with the San Luis Obispo
: Turtle and Tortoise Club,

I finally get to meet Bob Thomas, with whom I've had numerous phone chats over the past couple of years -- and see some of his critters! *:)

: Friends of the Elephant Seal,
: and a host of other participants.

: Komor says she desperately needs permanent homes for
: several iguanas,

I guess this makes 4, now. --Not many when you think of the shelters with 20 or more...but WAY too many for someone who is chronically ill, as I am.

If you can foster or adopt one of these igs (photos of Blueberry(F, 3 yrs), Spryte(F, 2 yrs), Oberon(M, 1 yr), and Puddin-Rex(M, 3? yrs) at:

http://remarque.org/~mbkomor/new/
)
...please email me directly at

: which she is fostering on a temporary
: basis. A couple of the colorful lizards had been abandoned
: in what is for them Cambria's hostile outdoor atmosphere;

One was left in a cardboard box on the doorstep after dark (it gets COLD here at night!) with a note taped to the top of the box saying that they'd kept the little guy on a hot rock for 24 hrs already -- with a hemipenal prolapse.

*SIGH*

: others were sent to Komor by animal-services agents.

: The thought that people would abandon iguanas, or any pet,
: enrages Komor. "They're just people with fur or scales. There
: is no such thing as a throw-away animal," she said.

I said a good deal more, but they only had 5 column-inches free.... Oh well :)

: For details on the iguanas, call Komor afternoons or evenings
: at 805-927-3323,

Email is just as fast: .

: or log onto www.anapsid.org, a website by the author
: of "Iguanas for Dummies."

My igs aren't on there; ig *info* is on there -- LOTS of it! (:

...Late breaking news:

I've already received one phone response to the article: A woman with a 10 yr old boy "who has snakes, frogs, spiders, and a box turtle", who thinks she can keep an adult ig "in a rabbit hutch -- after all, the rabbit is gone now...."

I'm going to invite them both over to meet my igs and see their freeroaming setup O:)

If you want more news/updates, email me and let me know!

*Best,*

-Meriday Beth
