Some green iguanas become orange, or have some browns, rusts, and other colors. The best way to tell if it is a green iguana is to look for the enlarged subtympanic scale under the ear. If it has a big scale under the ear it is a green iguana. If not it might be some kind of spiny tailed iguana, probably not, they lose all their green color at a young age. Does it have large spiny scales that encircle the entire tail?
