On the lil Parakeet the skin covering their nostrils above their beak is known as the cere sorry if you already new that I am new here dont think ive talked to ya but i rescued a baby ig from where i work i know this isnt a bird forum but if i can put my two cents in most parakeets are fed on that horrible seed mix and it really is too high in fat for them one the lil baby gets a but older and has some more weight to it you should start to mix a lil bit of formulated pellet into it the food mix then the next week a bit more etc untill most of the keets diet consists of the pellets any regular seed mix really isnt the proper diet for any hookbill and the lady @ the petstore was right keep up with the fruits and veggies if it ever gets hot out they go bonkers over fleshy slices of orange I have a Blue Fronted Amazon a cockatiel and a pair of keets as well
