It's a real tough one... I loved the bunny story though..these are the best stories!
I have often wondered about this subject... and cannot say one way or the other for certain, but I sure hope they do!
Some of my closest emotional stories would come from my last iguana, Salvador. I try to separate the caregiver role (like when he would cling or run to me if he was scared....or run away from me when I wore a mask on Halloween) from truly wanting to be with me. What I can come up with is this...when he was let out daily to free roam after work or on weekends, he would **sometimes** choose to come over and SIT right on top of whatever I was absorbed in (newspaper, bills, etc.) He would block it as if to say..."here I am! Pay attention to me!" The day at the park right before he became ill and died, I was trying to brainstorm ideas on paper for a webpage for my mother's business. He normally loves the park and basked without paying much attention to me. That day, he kept sitting on my papers, getting in the way, and I really couldn't figure out what had gotten into him. I would put him on the other side of the table again and again, and he would return and not let me write anything down! On the way home he didn't want to look out the window like he always did, but just sat in my lap against me.
I don't know what any of it really means scientifically. I sure loved him though (I had enough for both of us!)
