while i wholeheartedly disagree about whether or not igs show emotions/affection ~ (+ we might have to agree to disagree on that point ~ *grin*) ...

does the fact that i dont treat my WILD exotic animals like demostic house pets mean i use bad husbandry?
IMHO, the fact that your reptiles don't get "snuggled" doesn't mean they are not happy + healthy and it surely doesn't mean that you are ANY less of a care-giver than anyone else!
i DO NOT think that a 'tame' reptile is *automatically* healthier or even happier ~ that part pretty much totally depends on the human involved ...

Is it bad to give animals the care they need not the care you want?
again, IMHO ~ no that's NOT bad at all!
and i think maybe it's rather selfish + egotistical of us to *expect* reptiles to reward our efforts by showing affection ... they are NOT domesticated animals by ANY means ~ and any trust (or affection) is something the person has to EARN on a daily basis ...

maybe that's part of it for some of us???
dogs pretty much like any + everyone ~ but when a 5.5' iguana likes to snuggle up to my neck, it just kinda makes me feel "special" (for lack of a better word) ...

i DO think that the extra physical contact, ie: snuggling, DOES play a role in *some* cases ...
i'm thinking that especially with igs who've been abused in the past + have been rescued ~ or of igs who have been very seriously ill + recovered (iZ has been both of those) ... i really do believe that the snuggles, back rubs, etc, helped him heal ~ let him know that SOMEONE was "on his side" and would be there for him ... i don't know how to explain to you what i mean ...

i DO think it is *possible* for human + igs to "bond" ... maybe not for every ig + every human ~ but *possible* none-the-less ... but not wishing to do so, DOES NOT make you any less than any of us, and DOES NOT mean your animal's husbandry is lacking in any way!!! it just that we're all different is all ...

Bon. + iZ
