we know for sure in other spacies (cyclura, ctenasaurus)it is more of a percentil then veg./plant matter. Studies show that the common green iguana does in fact take insects, eggs and some small animal protien. They have been known to even take dead carrion as food. Probably something to do with smell of over ripe or rotten plant matter. I'm not saying to over do it but in our adult iguanas we included a 20-25% animal protien diet to the plant/veg. diet and saw no harmful effects in 12 years. The smaller igs would be fed a less of a percentage for sure. I don't see a problem with the care sheet other than an explaination of how much or how often. My gosh ! Think of the pet stores that don't give ANY info on species.

: I would ask the pet store to take that little tidbit out of the caresheet. Most people will think that since they can have a bug here and there, they can use it as a part of their regular diet. In the wild... iguana's accidentally, -sometimes intentionally- injest animal protien. BUT... their bodies cannot process animal protien well. So feeding crix or mealworms or any type of animal protien is not a good idea ...just to be on the safe side.
