hey Iguanamomma...I've missed seeing your name around here!

I LOVE PARAKEETS...miss not having one but am holding back since we'll probably try to start a family soon (plus I am allergic to birds even though I've had them almost my entire life...seems lonely without one) Actually we do have some birds in our fireplace though..cheeping up a storm. I'm hoping they leave on their own but it sounds like babies so I'll wait it out.

Back to parakeets. I learned something from my last one...and I'll pass this along to you. Birdseed isn't very healthy. The vet told me it causes tumors (which is what my last keet had) They now make some high quality non seeded food (couple brands) that is baked I think. I tried to switch him over, but it was too late and too stressful for him. I would reccommend starting yours out on it now (I ate some and it's not bad tasting). You can use seeds as treats, but the vet said it is just too fatty...like eating potato chips for your meals. Here is a link to the food I tried (my friend uses it with great success now and her bird loves it). There are some other brands, but our vet reccommended this one.
