My iguana will not eat! Help!

I have had my iguana for 3 days and I am very worried because he will not eat. Will he be okay if he goes with out eating for this long? I have left the food in his cage and water. I have never seen him eat or drink. He is very shy. When I put him in water for a relaxing swim, he drank a little of the water then, other than that I have not seen him eat or drink. Please give me some tips I am new at being an iguana owner. I really love him! Josh,
