it should not be a BLACK or WHITE "i am going to give up" thing at all...you are VERY right in the idea that most pet stores need not handle herps at all...but can't simply lump ALL retailers into the same boat.
I approach the situation on a place by place method...Some places really know their stuff and protect the animals from being sent home with idiots and some don't.
if you really want to make chages that will be BENEFICIAl to everyone involved, I would suggest working towards establishing better regulatory laws regarding the sale and keeping of herps...After all, there are exotics laws down here in Florida that exclude people without proper training and licsencing from owning large cats adn other dangerous exotics...
What about a lisence to own Iguanas and other reptiles?
just some thoughts...so many of us share your concerns and frustrations - but realism and idealism must find a way to peacefully coexist...
: Since basically the opinions I am getting are "petstores will never stop selling iguanas" and that I should go ahead and continue the same old "nice" approach (that obviously has not worked in the past years) I decided just to forget the whole thing.
: Apparently one person can't make a difference.
