: Most electrical companies are making a statement about their compliancy with the Y2K thing. This is actually a very simple problem to fix once it is known which systems are effected. Here in Idaho, Idaho Power, has already stated that it is Y2K compliant. You might just want to call your local power company and see where they stand right now.
: Depending on where you are living, if the power went out in the winter for a long period of time, you could be in big trouble in suppling heat to your reptiles. You might want to invest in a camping heater that runs propane. The main consideration is that if you have ever been in a closed up space with a propane heater you know that it puts off fumes and seems to burn up all the oxigen. You would need to moniter it very closely. We use propane heaters all the time, camping and in the garage, they work fine.
: Hope that helps, Joan
Joan,
I guess I'm either pessimistic, paranoid or both, but think of the possible repercussions the utility companies could experience if they said that they hadn't addressed the Y2K problem and were not compliant. With that in mind, did you really expect them to tell you anything else except that 'everything is OK, don't worry about it'? I sincerely hope that the new millinium enters with nary a ripple, but "just in case"....
Aaron
