sounds interesting... well, i definitely do not scrape the yuck from the sides!!!;) i have live plants in there, and after awhile, a "new" plant started growing. just a big old wad of algae (looks a lot like seaweed actually, it's thick and substantial enough to cut with a knife) now i've taken it out of the fishtank and it's going to be its own culture now.
so anyway drayco... did ya get lost?!? this is the IGUANA forum!... ; D : D ; D : D

: Well we know that the Marine Iguana's main source of food is the kelp seaweed.
: Kelp maybe similar to algae ??? Don't know this forsure though.
: I have used kelp in very small amounts to add Iodine to the diet which is usefull when feeding goitrogenic food items such as Kale, and crucifer type greens, these types of plants can inhibit the absorbtion of iodine resulting in goiter.
: I also know that very small amounts of iodine should be used because of the potential for being toxic if used to much.
: Therefore I would try to find the nutritional content of the algae, feed it only as a treat on occasion in case it is packed with iodine such as kelp is.
: As for useing the fish tank algae, I have lots of that too in my tank sometimes, I would maybe use the little green floaters, but as for the stuff stuck and on the glass, I don't know.
: I would research this somemore if I were you :)
