well, IMHO, i think your ig is just fine with astroturf and fake plants + branches .... for one thing, the astroturf can be cleaned on a regular basis (not to mention the surface underneath the astroturf!) ... if you use live plants, not only will you need to be sure they are good for your ig, but you have to realize that they WILL be chomped on and stomped on and will NOT stay "pretty" very long .... you will need to replace them OFTEN ...
igs environments need to be warm and humid, which i think is the biggest argument AGAINST putting real soil and plants in an ig house ... it will be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to keep clean ... you're not going to be able to disinfect it in any way because soil and plants NEED the microscopic life .... but igs DON'T .... in such a confined environment, igs need it to be CLEAN and free of bacteria ....
another point is, igs spend most of their time "UP" ... he doesn't care about the bottom of his enclosure as much as he does about theTOP part of it .... if you want to remodel his house for him, make it bigger, taller ... add more climbing branches and things ... and add LOTS AND LOTS of "silk" plants and vines.... THAT will be closer to what he would like ... the fake plants now days can look pretty realistic ... they can also be cleaned, and are generally stronger/more durable than real plants .... and when iZ totally destroys a 6' silk vine, i can go back to walmart and replace it for $3 .... (tho now that he's tasted all of them he pretty much leaves them alone) and iZ REALLY likes his leafy "hidey" places!

happy igging!
:P + :)
