: : It looks like you are alert to Iguana's lives, I really need some help and advice.I don't keep my iguana in a cage, he has free roam of a 13x13 room, with a computer and his light and lots of stuff that I've been afraid might be dangerous for him,but as I see the hangups and pitfalls I try to protevt him. He has ropes to get around and spots to hide, safely, and he's is not alone very often, because I work in there.
: Ireally want him to live his whole long life, and grow his whole big size. But what can I do about the poop? It is the most impossible stuff I've ever delt with.Like a giant loose egg that won't stay in one place, and no matter how patient picking it up ( I'm almost always there for the event)it always gets away from me.The Poop. Know what I mean?
: So He' or She is around 5 or 6 pounds and really fat. What can I do about the poop?Any suggestions? I don't want to put him in a cage, put in a little while i'll have to make 7 or 8 trips to collect up and clean the poop. And what if I spend the whole day claeaning up my Iguana's poop and don't get any work done? I've tried to talk to him about we need to figure out a regular place for him to poop, on somthing that would be scoopable, but he really dosen't have any ideas on that, so he just keeps makin sure i'n there when he has to go. Seriously, he waits till he knows I can pick it up right away. He never poops when nobody is there. But today he did lick some of it before I could get it under control, so I'm glad to understand it was good for him.So, you ever raised one free like that? and if they say that they can be house broke, I really need to get a lot more faith. All I know about that is puppies, and they are warm blooded mammels,no problem. Can't see a lizard worrying about whether or not he pleased or was praised. So tell me thats not true,or do you have an idea what to do?

: : : : (Hi Adam -- you've found the forum! :) )
: : : : Iguanas do eat their own poop sometimes when
: : : : seeking to innocualte themselves with the "good"
: : : : digestive bacteria. They are not born with it --
: : : : babies will ingest feces of an older iguana to
: : : : obtain it. Often they mistake thier own poop
: : : : (the only poop around) for another ig's poop and
: : : : will eat it in the hopes of obtaining it.
: : : : This can happen in odler iguanas just after being on
: : : : antibiotics or after being dewormed -- both meds
: : : : can kill off the "good bacteria."
: : : : You can give him a dab of yogurt with live cultures
: : : : or check with your vet abtou giving him Bene-Bac or
: : : : Nutri-Bac.
