K-man,
Iguanas naturally want to be as high as possible, hence the clawing at the walls, your iguana is trying to climb the wall. I tend to believe some of this comes from not feeling secure enough at the level he/she is at in the room. Some of our iguanas are relaxed with just sitting on the back of the couch or recliner and looking out the window, but some we have had, couldn't sit still 5 minutes without trying to get higher in the room. It seemed to me, the longer they had time out in the rooms, the less they did this.
Now as far as turning dark outside, some iguanas will do this to soak in more heat from the sun. If the still air temp is not that hot, the dark coloring will soak up a larger amount of heat. We've noticed this with a few of ours when we take them outside early or late in the season. The orange is a whole different story....as Travis posted, sounds like you definitely have a male on your hands and if that's the case, keep on eye on him and his mood. Breeding season can turn males into very nasty dudes! LOL Although iguanas probably don't have the bite down muscles like a monitor does, they do have a nasty bite and can croc-roll during an attack. Their teeth are made for cutting NOT gripping, so any additional movements during a bite will most likely lead to deeper cuts. Be cautious during breeding season.
