and it was bad, but not quite this bad. The poor iguana that we tried to help hadn't been handled in over a year, was kept in a 90 gallon tank with large wood chips for bedding, no water source at all, and a diet of dried pellets and romaine. The worst mite damage was on the top surface of the thighs and along the lower sides and abdomen. The skin and scales in these areas was very very thickened and coming loose leaving raw tissue beneath. There were about 6 layers of unshed spikes on this poor girl, teaming with live mites. These folks wanted me to take this iguana out of their house but I refused. We treated her in their home for several weeks until they refused us entry because they were angry that I wouldn't take her to my home. I don't know what became of this poor animal, but I couldn't risk my own animal's health by bringing it here. Just one of those times when you say " I wish I could....but." I tried.
It sounds like you have a really good handle on the situation and I hope she recovers and flourishes in your care. Poor, poor baby. OK, who can I go strangle now?
