: the fact that in the wild, an iguana may occasionally down an insect, or even other animal protein sources. I would not dispute this. However, in the artificial environment we are forced to keep them in, without year-round exposure to sunlight, we run a delicate balance between health and diet-induced illnesses. We are finally starting to get it right, but the margin for error is slim. We pretty well know that we can keep them healthy on a strict vegetarian diet, so, in my opinion, why take a chance? If you never start feeding insects, your ig will never miss them. Plenty of other treats out there which are not as potentially detrimental. As an example, Bug, (my ig) loves bread. Still not a good daily food, but he gets the occasional treat about every two weeks.
