Gee whiz...Im stumped...ruled out frilled dragon, and red tegu right away....the only "red" iguana Ive seen pics of coming close to 5ft. are marine iguanas and they are illegal to own in US and the red coloration is characteristic of male breeding season colors. Now Ive seen Honduran Igs that are this very dark orange like a burnt orange (would not consider it red) with dark black bands but no white stripes on their bellies. Strange....well here's a link to Hakan's site of wild iguanas maybe Venezuelan (?)on 5th row ..but more pinkish purple than red. Perhaps contact your local library and see if they have/can get a copy of Iguanas of the World by Burghardt & Rand I think copyright is 1982. Good luck and post back if you figure out where he's from. Inquiring minds want to know ;-)
