Nasty Attitude Question

I have had a rescued female for approx 1 year she has always had an attitude and the best I have been able to accomplish with her is for her to allow me to touch her & barely handle her. Tonight while cleaning her abode she postured at me and when I lifted her to clean the area she was in she got down right nasty. Was she having a bad spike day or what? Every day I learn some thing new about these guys. please enlighten me some one!
