Factual data? Hmm Check with Iguana Bibliography Im sure there is all sorts of data/books/abstracts there to back up this well known fact! back in the day....when iguanas were often fed spinach (loaded with oxalic acid) I suppose someone realized that feeding spinach was not so smart!Enter MBD. Oxalic acid binds calcium & iron and forms insoluble salts...making calcium unabsorbable. High oxalic acid foods include: spinach, pokeweed, nuts, rhubarb, parsley, okra, leeks, swiss chard, sweet potatoes
Besides Oxalates...then you gotta look into goitrogens, protein, tannins, phytic acid, purines, cyanogens, solanines, and saponins...to mention a FEW! Virtually every plant has something in it that makes it harmful to an ig if fed in excess...try not to sweat it unless you are REALLY into herbivore nutrition...providing variety, moderation with alot of water!!
