that you're researching + not just being impulsive!
sorry if we tend to *jump on* people! it's just because we usually have to try to get our point across in one short post because most people have already made up their minds that they're gonna get an ig, post a question, don't like the answer and .... on + on ... well, we've all just seen too many unhappy endings + just want to make SURE people realize what they're in for ... by all means ASK us questions!!!
as far as ig-proofing a room to free-roam in ... the problem with that is that what igs need to be comfortable, happy + Healthy isn't comfortable to humans ... unless your room is always 80+ degrees, it's not gonna be warm enough for the ig ... they DO need more than just a basking spot, they need the entire room/enclosure to be *warm* ... if they only have one little spot that's warm, they're always gonna just sit there in that one spot ... they're not gonna feel like moving around, exercising, etc and they need to be doing that to stay healthy ... physically AND mentally!
igs DO lounge around a good part of the day, but it needs to be their CHOICE, not cuz they're too cold ... (make sense??)
Melissa Kaplin has probably the most extensive site on iguana care ... definitely a must-read to help you realize exactly what you're in for!
Jen Swofford also has a good site + has good info on ig diets ...
James Hatfield has an excellent book in print ... i always blank on the name of it tho! ...
keep in mind that there is more MIS-information in print than not! pretty much anything over 5 years old, is gonna have outdated info ... (there's a book out there that says igs need to eat grit like birds do to digest! eeeeeeeeeeeek! that'll impact + kill an ig for sure!)
scroll down or do a forum search and that'll help with info too, + lead to more questions! *grin* ... we've talked alot about various heating methods, humidity, etc, lately ...
and ... if you have snakes, you know it's NOT always easy to find medical care for 'exotics' ... definitely make sure there's a good ig-vet in your area!!!
and ASK away!!! everyone had to learn at some point and you're not an idiot for asking!
Bon.
