: What advice do you have for someone interested in purchasing a rhinocerous iguana? Is their care similar to the green iguana, and how is pricing, size, etc.
Go for it!! They are awesome!,personable and SMART!!!Max out at 4-5 feet long, 25 lbs at maturity. Shorter but stockier than GGIs. Easier care wise than GGIs. Start out with a baby, easier to tame, much more mellow than GGIs.Diet wise is similar to GGIs (higher plant protein for growth as babies)I do not feed my cyclura ANY animal protein, expose to some unfiltered sunlight exposure (I don't use UVB lights with my babies) and do not require 80%+ humidity 24/7 as GGIs do, need higher temps than GGIs. Cost about $175-299 depending on who you buy from. David Blair's Rhinos altho I love the man.. are a bit overpriced ($250-299) for ME anyway. I got my cycluras from local backyard breeders at $150 each. Visit the Cyclura forum here at Kingsnake (go to forums up at the top)...also at www.cyclura.com (link below) David Blair has some GREAT articles on virtually every cyclura /care sheets available altho its kinda hard to navigate the site...begin with David Blair Cyclura West Indian Rock Iguana articles and follow the arrows at bottom of page...3 pages down should see Rhino Ig info then about 6 pages down should see Caresheets. Read everything you can get your eyes on, and post over at Kingsnake Cyclura Forum for more feedback specific help and if you post your city, state...maybe a breeder close to you or check the classifieds at Kingsnake search under Rhino Igs. Much luck.
