I'm just full of them tonight...;)~ Not sure just how well they work, have *heard* good things about them though. Whole house water filters. Home Depot sells them for about $40. May be a case of you get what you pay for...who knows. Installs on the back side of your water main (in-line beyond the shutoff valve) so everything coming into the house is filtered. Depending on just how effective they are it may be an option. If they are as effective as I'm told, they may help the situation. I've looked at them in store and if you have any plumbing experience at all they don't look at all difficult to install.... I would imagine that they'd also work just as well on well-pumped water....
