: steam ones are just too dangerous to use! no matter HOW careful you are, there is *always* the potential for *any* pet (or child for that matter!) to accidently (or purposely!) get too close to the steam and burn itself ... it doesn't take very long for steam to burn, a matter of seconds! and, since igs don't sense heat quite the same way as we do, it is entirely possible for an ig to plant itself in front of the steam, not realizing that it's gonna hurt itself until it's too late ~ very much like hot rocks!!!!!

: it's one of those things that shouldn't be around pets OR kids AT ALL ... (my most humble opinion as a paranoid humommy + grandma ~ they are EVIL!!!! *grin*)

: sonic and/or cool mist are *safe* cuz they have no heating element ... you could sit on one all day long and all that'd happen is you'd get pretty damp, but you wouldn't get hurt and THAT is the point ...

: as far as in the enclosure or in the room??? it depends on your set up! if the enclosure is more of a sealed thing with plexiglass, then you'd need to either have the humidifier in the enclosure or at least have an opening in the enclosure with the mist directed at it ... if the enclosures are more 'open' to the air in the room, then humidifying the room itself would probably be ok ...

: and yeah, 50% is pretty low ... they need to be breathing the higher humidity air as well as just being in it ... daily soaks *do* help but should be in addition to humidity, not instead of ...

: (any of that make sense??? i'm *still* wiped out from my 10hr shift yesterday ... :S )
: Bon.
