In Reply to: Thanks I tried the back legs but he gets out of it posted by Christy on April 04, 2001 at 19:52:43:

: No matter how snug he can wriggle right out of it, I never let the lead get tight, just as soon as theres any pressure in the slightest bit on the leash I walk closer to him, i will be VERY careful, Our lawn is never sprayed and there is no outdoor plants (UGH cant wait till I move LOL), I should have thought about the chocking since she did choke on a mushroom piece, THANK YOU for the reminder, I was right by her side at every moment but next time ill be sure to check the yard first, it was mid 60's and there was no wind, I know I should have waited but she keept looking longingly outside, i only had her out there less than two minutes, I will definetly go read your article Thank you Very Much

: : Just a suggestion, which would be to put the leash on the hind legs instead of the front ones. There is less chance for injury on the back vs the front. There's a bone located by the throat that can easily be broke and cause major health problems for your iguana. The type of leash that you have will work just fine by the back legs.
: : Also, be very careful would you allow your iguana by, such as pebbles or small rocks, bark (mulch),plants, sticks, etc....iguanas love to taste everything and this can wind up causing blockage in their digestion track. Make sure there is no chemicals on your yard at all for the last year too. Plants tend to hold on to chemicals for a long time and even a small amount taken in by your iguana can cause serious problems, even resulting in death.
: : Temps should be mid 70's before letting them stay out for any length of time and only when there's no large amount of wind during the day when it's 70 plus degrees. We need to remember wind chill factors when taking our iguanas outside. It maybe 75 degrees but if the wind is blowing 25 mph or more, chances are the temp is really around 55 to 60 degrees and that's what will cool off an iguana real fast.
: : Enjoy the summer months taking your iguana out, he'll thank you for it. Check out my article on taking your iguana outside at the below link.
