Cyclura nubila nubila max out at 4-5 feet stl (snout to tip of tail length) 20-30 lbs ...live 15-30 years in captivity. Same diet as GGI (giant green iguana) Higher plant protein while young below 2 years of age. I feed my babies one from each category and vary it week to week...food is available all day removed at night, water at all times:
GREENS:collard greens, dandelion greens & flowers, hibiscus leaves
VEGGIES: diced nopales, grated butternut or spaghetti squash For protein: tofu, legumes, Total cereal,
Fruits: prickly pear (tunas; cactus apples) ,fresh figs, papaya, oranges
I supplement with crushed TUMS daily and a powdered multi-vitamin MinerAll-0 3 times a week (just a sprinkle of each mixed well in food)
Humidity is totally unneccesary....I give them warm baths 1-2 times a week (talk about freaking out when they puffed up the first time I bathed them...learned its a defense mechanism readies them for possibility of drowning!)
Lighting and heat most important...I do NOT use uvb lighting but I do have them out for natural unfiltered sunning a few hours each month.
Need heat especially with a basking spot of 95-105
human heating pad on the cool end (80-85)of the tank...paper towels as substrate.
Very personable, intelligent and sweet...easy handling (keep claws trimmed!) can be skittish as babies...Have also experienced a VERY aggressive unsocialized adult male Rock so if you do consider one get em while its young.
Check out the Cyclura forum some excellent pics of adult cycies posted there too....They are AWESOME lizards! Much more easier than GGIs NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
