If an iguana is not handled regularly, it is more likely to bite - simply out of fear. Try to handle your iguana often and in various surroundings.
I have been bitten by a 3 foot ig and a five foot ig. It hurts. Don't pull your hand away or jerk suddenly, because its teeth will shred the skin. Simply open the ig's mouth. (More than likely they will let go right away anyway. We don't taste very good to them. The only time I have seen one hang on was during mating season when I got between Bad Boy and his 'love'. It was my fault.)
Anytime Bad Boy accidently nips my finger, he gets very upset. He does not want to hurt me and does NOT want to smell blood - much less taste it.
