the article sez in part: “Head bobbing is really a territorial display in male lizards,” he says. “It’s not a friendly thing at all.”

but that's not true!!! i can't believe this guy has had Fido for 12 yrs + hasn't figured out that there are a zillion (give or take a few) different *kinds* of bobs and *yes* some of them *are* friendly! iZ has distinctively different bobs for saying "hi humommy", "back off b****", "rub my back ~ now!" , etc etc etc ... (and females DO bob as well btw ...)

how can someone who is supposedly a *specialist* in animal behavior not realize something so obvious???? and how can he not even think about maybe the sense of smell plays a part in the ability to recognize??

and *then* he has the ego to state:

(McRobert notes,) “They are lizards, and they are not capable of a lot of thought.”

hmmmmmmmm ... i seriously feel the same way about scientists ~ they're not capable of a lot of thought .... (+ i'm only partly kidding .... *grin*)

Bon.

ps. a major clue to if a bob is meant to be threatening or not is if the dewlap is extended ....
