Well it was Christmas day and my heart sank immediately when I went to the bathroom and saw the door ajar! The bathroom is quite big and it became Spunky's home in May when I took him (so to speak) from the local pet store and hoped to find a good home for him (he's still here!) Anyway, one of my sons carelessly left the door ajar (for a second time) and Coolio, who freeroams downstairs went up there and decided to check things out. Guess he didn't remember what happened the first time, or maybe it was that I caught that one before "too much" damage was done. So I ran in and there was Spunky on top of Coolio, and Spunk's about 3 times Coolio's size and much stronger I think. I picked up Spunky, put him on his basking spot and picked up Coolio and put him out in the hall. As I went to put him down, I noticed his hand was bleeding, and a closer look showed me that some of it was gone. I called around and couldn't find any close by vets, so as soon thereafter as possible I called my vet and took Coolio to him. He put him in Baytril (actually it was for 3 weeks - Spunky just did a 2-week regimen for abscesses in his finger and I guess I was confused). When we went back to the vet, there was a big ugly scab on the hand, but it wasn't healing properly, so the doc had to remove it (ouch!) The last vist was about 3-4 weeks ago and the doc said it was looking pretty good and absent an emergency (or anything funky I guess) it should be ok to continue healing on its own.
I later got myself together enough to go back upstairs and look for the remnants of the hand, wherein I just broke down on the spot. But we're ok now :-)
