: Hi all! Well, Mr D decided to let me use the computer for a few LOL and come visit the forum! Yesterday a friend of mine and I drove down to pick up an iguana that needed a home because her human was pregnant. We knew from exchanged emails and phone calls that the iguana had been attacked by a cat three years ago, what we didn't know was how bad she really is. Initially we were only going to be a stop on her way to her new home with friends of ours but after seeing her IRL and spending some time with her, we all decided she as better off with us. She has never had any UV, NutriGrow Iguana Diet was the staple in her diet and after the accident she was only taken to the vet once (and the vet sold them feline/canine canned food to feed her). Her depth perception is really off, we watched in anguish yesterday as she tried to eat a peice of fruit and kept missing it by an inch. She refuses to be handfed and tails whips anyone who comes near her or touches her. Until yesterday, she had been kept in a basement and the only light in the enclosure was a night heat source. When the previous owner went to pick her up, he wouldn't do it without a towel. I am guessing that Jimmie hasn't been held much in the past nine months. Yesterday after we took her out of the bath and tried to put her in her enclosure she lept up on Mr D's shoulder and wouldn't let go ... we're assuming there is some anxiety on her part about being put in the cage.
: Today was a little better. She will allow us to pet her but only if we appraoch her from her blind side. A note about that, there is no more eye and the vet never closed the wound. What should be a snout on the left side is nothing more than a hole.
: This is a good example of what NOT to do with an iguana! Now maybe when people hem and haw or get irritated when we constantly say "Go find a QUALIFIED vet" they will listen to us.
