In Reply to: Do Iguana's get colds?? posted by twilight on March 21, 2001 at 18:26:12:
snalts??? Is there a white crystalized substance left after a bunch of sneezing? If so, this sneezing is how iguanas rid themselves of extra salt in the diet. I believe they all do it from time to time (mine is right now), but just make sure not to contribute by giving canned (high in sodium) veggies.
Iguanas do get respiratory infections, which can be characterized by rubbery saliva that bubbles up in the corners of the mouth and holding the mouth and nose up high to better breathe. This is a very very serious condition that requires a visit to the vet as soon as you can get there (and keep iguana very warm in the meantime). My last iguana caught one (but he had some underlying internal problems which weakened his immune system) and he died less than 48 hours later. If you know the behavior of your iguana, you can tell when they have a respiratory infection because it changes dramatically.
