I am loath to give advice outside of what a vet tells you, but in this case, I would have to say that, in my opinion, this advice is outdated. Protein should come from vegitable sources for captive igs. While it is true that igs in the wild may occasionally utilize some animal protein, in captivity we are on the edge of being able to provide the proper environment, and animal protein in amounts sufficent to affect growth are detrimental to the kidneys.
Try to increase the protein in the diet by adding shredded green beans, snow peas, sugar snap peas, and alfalfa, and don't use the mealworms.
