In Reply to: Help!!! I am pregnant & I don't know if iguanas are safe posted by Renee on March 16, 2001 at 09:09:27:
Being a mother myself to three wonderful daughters 5,4, and 2 years old. I was also worried about Samolina (sp) I talked not only to my vet but to our family dr. We were relieved to find out that the only way it can be transfered would be stool to mouth. In other words they would have to touch something with iguana doo on it then put there hand in there mouth, we were also told that even when that occurs its a small percentage that actually contact Samonila. I would say do normal precatuions you would take with ANY pet, wash hands, keep cages clean, Sanitize tubs before using for anyone after cleaning the Iggy. Dont let the iggy and newborn alone together. Good luck and congrats again, kids sure are a wonderful additon to your world.
: for my unborn baby. I posted on another site & my question wasn't fully answered, so they sent me here. I am not not worried about salmonella. I do want info on colera(sp)being transferred to unborn baby. My ob doesn't know ,&she said it's better to be safe. Does anyone know of iguanas carring colera & where can I find that info at. TIA!! Renee
