: Would it be better to start off with a small baby iguana when you decide you want one?
Better for whom? This is not meant as a direct insult to you but, if you're not fully prepared to care for one size has little to do with it. Regardless of what size an iguana may be, they all require the same level and comitment of care and a very LARGE enclosure.
When you "decide you want one", before you decide on adult vs. juvenile, the place you should start off is gathering information from reputable sources and talking to other people who have an iguana or iguanas as the case may be. You may find after doing this that an iguana might not be for you or that you need to give it some more thought.
Many people, including myself, STRONGLY URGE others NOT to purchase an iguana from a pet store. There are so many iguanas, both juvenile and adult, that are up for adoption and need a home that there really is no point in purchasing one unless you truely want to hand over your hard earned cash to a pet store.
