I feel the biggest part of being a responsible pet owner is knowing your limitations and I think I'm hitting mine. A few of you might have read my earlier post about how I rescued Gizmo, a 2yr old iggy from someone who was terrified of her. I was kind of leary of taking her in the first place but thought that I could either take better care of her myself or find someone who could. At her original home the lights were on 24/7 and she was subjected to a lot of negativity; because the person who owned Gizmo was terrified of Gizmo, she didn't attempt any interaction and every time she went past the cage she'd call gizmo names. I know the name calling doesn't do anything, but from owning boas and other reptiles all of my life I know they are very sensitive to emotional energies.( One of my boas will only come to me when I'm feeling blue or anxious, he'll slither out of his cage and wrap around me whenever I'm depressed or worried and cheer me up. As soon as I'm in a good mood again, he's gone ((Seem to see more of him at the end of the month when bills are coming up hehehe)). Total opposite will my female boa; If I'm in a bad mood she won't let me near her. She just loves to feed off positive energy, the happier and more energetic you are, the more she's attracted to you)
Well, back to Gizmo, it appears that I'm not the person to help Gizmo anymore. I just don't have the time or knowledge to care for her like she deserves. I already have 2 Boas, a Veiled chameleon, two cats, home schooling my child, and running a multimedia company, and adding Gizmo to the mix is a bit to stressfull for her I think. I try to spend at least an hour or so a day with her and hand feed her alot, she's still very skittish though and she just doesn't seem happy here. I don't want to sell her, I want her to go to a good home with someone who will love her and give her the time, dedication and knowledge that she deserves.
So, if anyone lives in the Calgary area or knows someone ( I will not ship her, I think the stress would be to much) and has the dedication and love that she needs please e-mail me at exp@home.com
I'll keep doing my best to take care of her, but I truely feel that she would be better off with an expert. I know she's in way better condition with me than where she was originally, she's eating well, has nice bright green color, and is pretty active, but I don't think it's good enough, she deserves a better owner than me. If anyone can help, please e-mail me.
Thx
Ax
