Thanks for the responses. As I put in the below post, the 6 from 6 foot length was deleted. His cage is almost identical to the James Hatfield ideal cage setup. Plastic plants, branches, live plants(yucca) It's quite nice.
Two things- I don't want to just "live with it because this is a beautiful animal who is in jail- he hates being enclosed, he even hates coming out and can't decide where he would rather be.
I know his next move si I can grab him before lunging. He's pulled out some claws to get out, get's out and wants back in. He isn't interested in house/cage living..
And I don't want to physically restrain an animal, especially an older male who could be prone to stressing.
And moving him into another house would be to much stress also- last time I upgraded his cage he didn't eat for a couple of weeks, and ran into the wall more than once.
Are there any zoos, or tropical botanical gardens that would take him? I'm in western Canada. He wouldn't ever "come down and bite" I'm sure of it.
What else is there, if you have the faintest idea it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again, Dennis

: I've left a few posts about my cranky Ig- and have had some excellant suggestions. But it isn't getting better.
: I can't bear to watch it- it's really sad. Maybe it's because I've seen them wild in the Amazon....
: Here's his setup:
: - foot long, 5' high, 2.5' wide
: - uv, and 2 spotlights
: -always water, and food nearly everyday
: -temp is 96F and 98F under the 2 spot lights
: -misted every day
: -eats great
: -diet- collards, mustard, squash, parsnips, rabbitfood, romaine, beans/peas and plants, fruit......... Well rounded w/ vitamins
: -he's 9 years old

: OK- he's been defacating under his heat lamp, or on his turfed ramp- and he's doing it out of anger. He wants out- only to be let out, attack me, then wants back into the cage.
: It isn't breeding season for him- he's absolutely insane in breeding season. I've considered (but won't) euthanization because it honestly would be a tad better than his outlook on life now.
: This isn't some mental illness, it'sjust he's the one with no domestic bone in the body. I sware he'd take to the wild in one second.
: The poor guy is depressed, and angry.
: I've been trying to find him a home at one of the 2 conservatories (planted buildings) but they don't want him. And there's no point giving him to a home because he won't be wanted. So I do my best- because I took him on as a babe.
: But I don't want him to die of old age having had a crappy existance! And I won't give him up unless he's going to not only a better place- but the disney of iguanas- like a jungle set up like in some zoos. They have igs, but pretend they get MBD in there because they must have so many offered to them. They are the most beautiful igs there!!!
: ONE MORE!
: About me... I have lots of good experience with many reptiles, fish, amphibians- I'm not ignorant and I have tonnes of iguana literature. But this didn't turn out as planned.
: Any ideas, suggestions, anything?!!!!
: Thanks, thanks, thanks
: (you can email me if you want also)
