: general anesthesia *always* poses a risk ~ whether it's for igs, humans and everything in between ... there is *always* the *chance* of something not going quite right ...
: for *any* surgery (human OR pet), you have to weigh the alternatives carefully and you *have* to make certain that the surgeon is competent! it is *always* a good idea to ask *any* surgeon (human OR vet) exactly how many *Sucessful*, similar procedures s/he has performed ... and it never hurts to ask if there is an alternative to using "general anesthesia" ...
: ok ~ all of that said ... iZ went thru *2* Major surgeries within 11 months and came thru with flying colors ~ (one of those surgeries was an hour + 1/2 long ~ a godawful LONG time for an ig to be under) ... the fact that Lucy's procedure will prob'ly take only a few minutes is a very big "positive" to the whole thing ...
: keep in mind that there is *no* ig-version of tylenol or ibuprofen for pain relief after surgery ... what has worked very well with iZ is to bring him home and tuck him directly into bed ... i turned up the temp of his room a bit and made it dark *early* to encourage him to go into the "sleep mode" ... that also works very well when you need to keep an ig "quiet" for a few days ... drastically shorten the amount of "daytime" and they'll go to sleep and give their bods a chance to heal up a bit ...
: (*geesh* did i ramble or what!?!)
: best wishes!
: Bon. + iZ
