That's too funny, Christy. Sounds like Jason's been "bitten" as well... In the long run, it's actually better to build the biggest enclosure that you can. The cost upfront may be high but by doing it this way the 1st (official) time you eliminate the need to upgrade ever again as long as it's built with a 6-8 foot lizard in mind. If you've got the space and cash to do it why not? The mortgage company have a line of credit that they can extend DD ? Maybe he can afford to build his own enclosure....;)
I think, all told, I'm going to be into Mel's 6x6x3 for all of about $300 worth of wood and that's with maple framing and doors. IF you can do it yourself you can probably cut the cost of a custom enclosure just about in half. So far, the electronics I've got are about $200 and $100 of THAT went just for the heating panel. So it's definitely something that can be done for comparatively little cash. And since you're looking at a construction loan what's another grand right ??...LOL
Heck, you may actually be able to put aside some scrap lumber from construction and use it in DD's space. I just scored 2 4x8 sheets of 1/4 inch plexi and 4 "muffin" fans from the ballet that they were literally throwing out because the set piece was never going to be used again. Keep an eye on what ends up in the dumpster when they start building........
