Pav, the only way you will be able to choose the sex of
a green iguana is to adopt an older one. There are lots
of trustworthy people who have rehabbed older igs and I am sure they
can send one to you. Many have been worked with and will already be fairly tame as well.

Green iguanas are never sold sexed as babies, the breeders who
can ACCURATELY sex babies are breeding cyclura iguanas, not green igs.

Yes males are the ones that go through breeding season ruts, this type of
very aggressive behavior is almost never seen in females. Now I am talking about
behavior such as leaping through the air, mouth WIDE OPEN, towards your face or throat
to kill you, or hunting/stalking/charging you while you are trying to
avoid the animal, not being aggressive because you have approached it.

Basically, some male iguanas, esp those raised alone without other MALE iguanas around may treat you
like you are another male iguana. This usually starts around 4-5 yrs old but there are always
exceptions. Many males will never have this problem so I don't mean to scare you, but it is something to
consider.

Females tend to be more aloof and less bold/confident with a group of people.
But of course there are exceptions here too. Females like to stay near their
home territory, males like to roam around more. In the wild cyclura males travel
several miles over several days! Females don't do this, they stay put in their
territories.

Don't know if this helped much, but best luck with finding the perfect pet ig for you.

Oh yeah one last thing - try your best to get one that is TAME, all will get fairly tame
with lots of work but certain ones have a very high strung personality and will never
be as friendly as others.
