O.K. What are the signs that tell me she has to poop?

Today I got her out and she pooped on the stairs. Yuck! If I had been paying attention, would I have been able to recognize that she had to go? I should have known better than to put her on the stairs instead of putting her in tub, but I just wanted to play with her for a while first. Big mistake.
