My iguana is mean, what do I do?

Its like whenever I get near it it wants to hit me with its tail. I have had it for at least half a year now, but never tried to do anything with it untill now. When I had my first iguana (Died, 7 years old or so) it was the same way but once it got to its full lenght it calmed down. So basically is there a way to get a young iguana tamed faster? Or a way period?
