Hi Pat! I know saltwater fish can be difficult to care for and have thrive -not to mention how expensive they are. An iguana is no less difficult or expensive. The dimensions for the tank you have didn't come through in your post very clearly but it sounds like you have close to or do have a 100 gallon aquarium there. Even though that is quite large, it is not large enough to house an adult iguana. The chances of successfully retrofitting it are slim to none. Iguanas are climbers by nature -the shortest enclosure we recommend is 6 feet tall.
While if you started with a hatchling, you might get a year and half out of your tank, there are no guarantees. Besides that fact that buying an iguana from a pet store is not a good idea for ethical as well as potential health reasons (many stores sell sick/dieing iguanas -see the most recent post about the Utah PetCo here on the board) -there are already so many unwanted adult iguanas in need of good homes. You might even find a juvenile up for adoption, we have two here now and I know I have seen juveniles up for adoption from many rescue shelters.
If you are looking to fill the tank with a reptile/lizard, there are better choices than an iguana. If you are really certain that you want an iguana and understand all that they require, my suggestion is that you sell the tank you have, take the money from the sale and use it to build or purchase a truely suitable iguana enclosure.
Good luck with whatever you decide! Keep us posted!
