I chop them up think with the stems as well on some occasions, although I live to give him some big leaf sections without stems too (he likes to munch on the big leaves!)
: Does anyone else chop up collard green stems into tiny pieces and mix them with the other vegetables during feeding time? My boyfriend suggested it to me so I wouldn't have to waste all of the stems-especially since collard greens are AT LEAST 1.99 for a small bunch here in Utah right now. (I can remember when they were .39 cents just last summer!)
: Anyway, I've been doing it for about a month now and it sure makes the food last longer! The iguanas eat them readily, and I chop them up so small that there's not threat of impaction or choking, but still--I've been wondering whether or not anyone knows if the nutritional content is the same in both the leaves and the stems. It seems to me to be fine to feed the stems to my igs, but I just thought I'd ask if anyone else has more knowledge about food and nutrition than I do. I want to do what's nutritionally best for Habib and the new iguana.
: (BTW, they're snuggled up together and fast asleep right now...)
